2nd Annual Harvest Moon Festival

October 17
Noon to 3:00 p.m.
All are invited to celebrate autumn and GEC’s teaching vegetable garden at this popular family-friendly activity day, rain or shine!

The Fairy Chef ~ Dirt Floral Designer ~ Laura Kaehler Band ~ Halloween Costume Exchange Pumpkin Patch ~ Pony Rides ~ Face-Painting ~ Vegetable Contest ~ Scavenger Hunt

A Halloween Costume Exchange will be held; participants may “share a costume, take a costume.” There will be a Scavenger Hunt and an Obstacle Course.

Celebrated landscape designer and author Gina Ingoglia will be at Harvest Moon Festival at 1:30 pm for an insightful presentation based on her popular book, Trees for Kids and Their Grown Ups. Books for purchase and signing will be available; this presentation was underwritten generously as a gift to GEC by the Greenwich Tree Conservancy.

Ann Robertson, the admired floral artist from Dirt, will demonstrate chic styling for garden cuttings (containers provided!) Daffodil planting will showcase a terrific connection to this community property. Delicious healthy baked treats provided by GEC volunteers will be for sale.

Area gardeners are encouraged to submit homegrown veggies for the Local Vegetable Contest. Judging for child and adult categories include: biggest, most crooked, roundest, tallest, most unusual, etc. All vegetable entries will be displayed.

On-site photography sittings so popular last year will be shot by Marilyn Roos White Photography (Greenwich & Martha’s Vineyard.) If weather cooperates, the photo shoots can take advantage of the glorious exterior settings at GEC; or, the sittings can take place indoors. Clients will have the opportunity to view digital photos right on site to order prints or holiday cards. The charge for the shoot is $35 (a direct donation to GEC!)

If you prefer an in-studio photography sitting, Katie Farro, now the head photographer at Classic Kids Photography at 54 Greenwich Avenue, is offering “Harvest Moon Mini Sittings” on Friday, October 29th from 2pm until 6pm, in studio. The charge for the sitting will be $35 (a direct donation to GEC!) This black and white film studio creates beautiful warm toned fiber print, still done the old fashioned way. Many love the look of their hand tinted prints; examples of their brilliant heirloom quality products can be seen at www.classickidsphotography.com and reservations can be made by calling 203-622-2358.
