Visit Edith Wharton’s elegant 1932 estate and gardens in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts, The Mount. We will tour Edith Wharton’s 42 room estate where our guide will take us through her life and her home followed by a tour of the three acres of restored formal gardens which includes the French flowering garden, Italian walled garden, grass terraces and the scenic mountain views. The tour recounts the history of the estate and its plantings.
We will have lunch at The Wheatleigh. The Wheatleigh is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built by Henry H. Cook and given to his daughter, Georgie, as a wedding present when she married Count Carlos de Heredia in 1893. Wheatleigh was designed by the architectural firm of Peabody and Stearns and the grounds by Frederick Law Olmstead who designed Central Park in New York City.
Campo de Fiori is where we are able to walk through the gardens to see the variety of plants that have been sewn over the years and buy products that will add to your collection whether it is an interesting aged terra cotta pot, garden trellises or a sphere for your beds.
Come and join us for a beautiful fall day in the Berkshires!
Wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera.
